My ultimate goal is to become a higher level teaching assistant.
I believe that children can be taught valuable life lessons during their time in primary school in addition to the content of the National Curriculum. This will help them to grow emotionally and mentally into mature young people and it is this that I want to be a part of. I am passionate about having this positive input into the lives of young children.
I have work experience in an educational environment and have voluntarily worked as a teaching assistant at an Infant School where I rotated between years 1 and 2 helping children with their work and various projects; for example I assisted a group of children from year 1 in designing and building an 'eco-island' from recycled materials, and contributed to the year 2 leavers' assembly by examining the quality and progress of their work.
In addition to this I supervised children of all ages in breakfast club, during break time and on school trips.
I have supported children with a range of learning and physical disabilities, including dyslexia, Downs Syndrome and ADHD. I have also worked with children who have challenging behavioural difficulties, such as Oppositional disorders. I would be willing to undertake any further training in order to fully support a child's learning needs.
Although I have limited experience working within the Key Stage 2 school environment, I have a step-daughter and a nephew both aged 10. I have helped them with school work and projects, as well as supported their learning through listening to their reading, checking homework and setting fun but educational activities for them to do at home.
I am confident in my written and spoken communication skills and believe I am a likable, approachable person. I have strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to build good relationships with both children and colleagues.
