Have you ever thought of yourself as a masterpiece? Ephesians 2: 10 says “For we are his workmanship. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” It is only by the grace of God could we be thought of as a masterpiece. Prayer
Today our theme is becoming God’s masterpiece, but have you ever thought about what really makes a masterpiece ? Most of us have seen works of art that have made us awestruck. Whether in a museum, a gallery, or online, the artwork makes us stop in our tracks, and stand in amazement at the sheer genius displayed. We may not even know who the artist is - that does not matter. The artwork stands on its own, and stirs our consciousness. After we finally leave, the work of art is embedded in our minds, and forever is parts of us.All Artist have their own masterpieces that they recognize as their highest achievement. For God that is us. It is amazing that the creator of the universe thinks of us as his masterpieces. How dose an artist create a masterpiece? First of, Masterpieces often happen by producing lots of art. God created us who he deemed his masterpieces after creating the world and the animals. In the bible he calls us his workmanship. The Greek word translated “workmanship” is (poiema), from which we get our English word poem, meant “a thing that is made” and, by implication, a work of art, a masterpiece. “We are a divine work of art,” says C. S. Lewis. What do you see when you look in the mirror?
I know when I get up in the morning and look in the mirror, the last thing I’m reminded of is a masterpiece. You know you’re in trouble when your first reaction is to rebuke that thing in the mirror. But if your talking about abstract art where one eye is up here, the nose is down here, hair is out here e.c.t, then what I see in the morning could be called art, abstract art. What do you think God thinks about you? You’ve known for a long time that He loves you. But does He like you? When He looks at your life, do His eyes light up or does He look the other way? In Gods eyes every child of his is not only a work of art, but unique, one of a kind, a masterpiece. In the first chapter of Genesis, the writer records God working during creation. When you study creation closely you will find that God does not make everything the same. “Let there be light and there was light”. Notice that God spoke and light appeared. For a majority of the creation God spoke and it came into being. The sun; the moon; the land fit for habitation; fruit trees; solar system; vegetation; stars and other living creatures. Now let’s examine what happened when God made man. Remember our foundational text “For we are his workmanship. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” We are his workmanship-His work of art His Masterpiece. If God had just spoken us into being it would not have taken a lot of work, as a matter of fact; it would have taken but a few seconds- as long as it took to speak the words. But God took his time to create and fashion us in his own image. There are so many young people today who do not value their lives or the lives of others. If they did they would know that they were created special one of a kind, unique, a masterpiece. To many times they see themselves as worthless junk. We do not see ourselves in His image. We do not see in ourselves what God sees and therein lies the problem. God has sent Jesus and given us His Word so that we will understand our true image. He has given us an example and told us verbally who we are, but we are not accepting it. God is like a director making a movie. I do not know a lot about making movies, but let me give you a quick view of what I “think” I know. The director understands the story; he sees it; knows how it should play out and what needs to be done so that the audience will get it. Although he knows what should be done,...
