In a special way, I wish to dedicate my work to two very special people in my life. First, to the memory of my late father, Mr GACACA Etienne, who made me the person I am today. He was a wonderful father and I will always appreciate the effort he invested into nurturing me and my siblings to greater heights. I also dedicate my work to my wife NAYIGIZIKI Kezie who has been there for me throughout my course and has constantly encouraged me to complete my thesis.
First, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Almighty who created me and protected me all along my life till today. This work has come to the end not only by the effort of the researcher but also the support of many individuals. To begin with, I would like to thank Dr. Alfred OTARA, my supervisor, for his constructive suggestions throughout my work. I am fully grateful to the management of Mount Kenya University, lecturers and all staff members for their instrumental support, which enabled me to reach where I am. My sincere congratulations go to my family: my late father and my mother who brought me into this world and provided all the necessary requirements for my life and for my basic education. More importantly, I cannot forget NAYIGIZIKI Kezie, my beloved wife whose encouragement and help have tremendously contributed to the completion of this work. Finally, my heartfelt thanks go to all those whom I have not mentioned here, but who, in one way or another, have facilitated the completion of this work.
