I feel he is telling us what we need to be watchful of, rumors of war nations against nations, false profits. The end of times will be nearing, Jesus tells us what we need to be careful of and not fall for the false prophets. He tells us the anguish that will take place, such that has never been. Do not let anyone mislead you for many will come claiming to be the Messiah, and they will deceive many. (Matthew 24:4-5) We have all been told from the time we were kids, that Jesus is coming again and how people believe he will destroy the world. It was just like another story. Our grandparents and parents would tell us to be good and go to church so that when God destroyes the earth we would be called up to be with him in heaven and we would miss most of the terrible things that are going to happen. We have been hearing for years the world is coming to an end over and over. You must keep watch, you do not know the date or time when your lord will return (Matthew 24:42-44) but that it will happen. He is telling us what to watch for. He tells in the verses what will happen for example, two men in a field suddenly one will be gone. I think he is trying to impress upon the disciples the urgency of what he is trying to teach them. That he is going to be leaving them and will not be there to help them and make sure they understand what needs to be done. What task he has given them. The end of the world and the things that are going to happen before and lead up to the time when in a split second we will see Jesus on his white horse riding from the heavens and raising his believers from the dead and those that are still here when that happens, the panic that will come over those left behind.
