The Holy Mosque
This is the greatest mosque in Islam; and it lies in the center of the city of Mecca, in the western part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. At the center of the mosque lies the Kaaba that was built by Prophet Abraham, peace be upon him, making it the first house that was built for the people.
The Haram
The haram is a place in which killing is forbidden regardless of the reason. The hunting of animals and cutting down trees that weren’t planted by humans are also forbidden. The haram has boundaries that were fixed before Islam. These boundaries were passed down from the religion of Abraham and confirmed by the Messenger of God, Muhammad, peace be upon them.
The Longing of Hearts
The Qur’an informs us that when Prophet Abraham, peace be upon him, built the Kaaba he prayed to God that He would make the hearts of people belong to it and long to travel to it to preform Hajj. Today the desire to visit is the ambition of more than 1.5 billion Muslims.
Mecca
The greatest city in Islam is Mecca. It was here that the Messenger of God, Muhammad, was born, and it was here that he started his message. Mecca was given its name because people and crowds gather in it.
