The Mosque
The mosque is the place in which Muslims perform their communal and obligatory prayers. The first mosque was built by the Prophet Muhammad, may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him, when he resided in Al Madinah. A mosque is considered a place where one can remember God, and learn about Islam and its rulings. Muslims visit the mosque five times per day in order to perform their obligatory prayers.
The Mosque and the Community
Mosques are built on the concept of unity and inclusiveness. Mosques are for all people and there is no difference between white or black, rich or poor, educated or uneducated. The mosque makes all individuals equal, and only piety elevates the rank of an individual.
The Mosque of Light
The Mosque of Light was built in New Zealand in 1981, and it is the first mosque upon which the sun rises; hence is the first mosque that performs the athan every morning.
