هنا يرقد رسول الإسلام محمد بن عبد الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، وقد دفن في بيته الذي مات فيه ٨ / ٦/ ٦٣٢ حيث لفظ أنفاسه الأخيرة وهو مستند إلى صدر زوجته عائشة رضي الله عنها وهو يقول: (بل الرفيق الأعلى). ثم دفن بجواره خيرة صحابته أبو بكر الصديق خليفة المسلمين من بعده، وعمر ابن الخطاب ثاني الخلفاء رضي الله عنهما، ويسلم المسلمون على رسول الله محمد أثناء زيارتهم للمسجد النبوي.
